"Panthers Can Change Lives" supports our annual 1 Million Meals initiative.

YELLVILLE, Ark. – Students throughout the Yellville-Summit School District recently raised more than $3,000 and collected more than 1,000 nonperishable food items during a weeklong food and funds drive called “Panthers Can Change Lives.” The donation drive was held in support of the school’s Food for Thought backpack program that supports approximately 50 local children. The backpack program is one of several such programs in North Central Arkansas that send nonperishable snack items home with children on weekends and holidays, times when they don’t have access to school meal programs and may not have enough food to eat.

“This is a long-standing tradition for our students and they are always excited to pull together in support of their classmates,” said Liz Leatherman, elementary school counselor and program coordinator for the Yellville-Summit Food for Thought Backpack Program. “This year’s results were remarkable and we are extremely proud of the hard work every student put into the campaign.” Since 2013, students have now collected a total of more than $13,000 for the backpack program.

The Panthers Can Change Lives campaign created a friendly competition to see which grades in K-6th grade and 7th-12th could collect the most change. Students in kindergarten and 9th grade collected the most money. Every class at Yellville-Summit was treated to a complimentary cookout by Arvest Bank after the campaign.

Panthers Can Change Lives was held in support of Arvest Bank’s annual 1 Million Meals campaign to help reduce hunger in North Central Arkansas. The two-month bank-wide effort is being held in the 120 communities Arvest Bank serves across a four-state footprint.

The initiative challenges associates, customers and the community to donate nonperishable food items and monetary donations at any Arvest Bank location in support of local food partners. Donations made at Arvest Bank locations in Yellville and surrounding communities benefit the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas’ backpack program, and other area backpack programs that are operated by various organizations.

Donations may also be made by calling (866) 952-9523. Arvest credit card customers can donate Arvest Flex Rewards™ points by visiting arvestflexrewards.com and clicking on the 1 Million Meals banner.
