Shirley Lechien’s passion is helping the homeless and people in need. When she saw an Oklahoman town which had a wooden box, similar to the little free libraries that are popping up but filled with non-perishable food instead, she was inspired to do something similar where she lives in Pittsburg, Kan. With the help of community members, Shirley created two blessing boxes where people are invited to “Take what you need. Bring what you can.” Read the full story at the Joplin Globe*.

Shirley’s story is part of Arvest Bank’s People Helping People series featuring citizens giving back to their community.
