Darlene Babcock, Commercial Loan Assistant in Greater Kansas City, has an amazing talent! Her hobby is knitting and crocheting and she makes items to donate.

Darlene has been donating adult hats to KU Medical Center for cancer patients with a special prayer tied to each one. She also donates newborn and preemie hats to Children’s Mercy Kansas City.
“Recently I’ve gotten involved with a group that crochets/knits for dementia patients in nursing care facilities,” Darlene said.

“These items are called ‘twiddle muffs’ or ‘sensory mitts’. They aren’t made to be pretty, but instead made to calm by keeping hands busy with fidgeting various items. It provides stimulation for these specific patients who are restless or agitated.”
Darlene also makes baby blankets, dish cloths, coasters, baskets and scrubbers.
“I really enjoy my hobby, and I’m always looking for ideas for my next project,” she said. “You might find me cruising the aisles at the yarn store brainstorming of what I will do next!”
What an incredible way to use a talent to give back to the community!
