The Home Depot Card Breach Investigation – What You Need to Know

The Home Depot, one of the world’s largest home improvement retailers, has confirmed “…that its payment data systems have been breached, which could potentially impact customers using payment cards at its U.S. and Canadian stores….”  This incident may impact some customers of Arvest Bank.

Please refer to The Home Depot website for their announcement and additional information at http://www.homedepot.com/.

What is Arvest doing?
The security of our customers is a priority at Arvest. Visa has begun to release information related to which cards are believed to be impacted by Home Depot’s payment system breach. Visa’s process of releasing information is gradual as they receive updates from The Home Depot. We are studying this situation and its potential impact on our customers very closely and will communicate further in the event new information becomes available requiring action. If card replacement were to become necessary, we would contact affected cardholders.

Please be assured that our systems routinely monitor card activity and attempt to identify unusual and potentially unauthorized transactions. While our systems may not detect all unauthorized use, we attempt to promptly contact any cardholder who we determine may be the subject of unauthorized transactions.

What should bank customers do?
As always, we recommend customers monitor their accounts for unauthorized transactions using web banking, mobile banking, telephone banking or monthly statements. If an unauthorized or otherwise suspicious transaction occurs, customers should report the activity to the bank immediately. Both banking regulations and card-brand policies protect consumers against certain fraudulent losses.

As mentioned previously, we do not recommend card replacement at this time, but if this step should become necessary, we will contact affected cardholders. If you have concerns or questions, please visit a nearby location or call customer service at (866) 952-9523 for assistance.
