Keep Your Diet On Track During The Holidays

We are headed into the time of year that is about food, food and more food! Between trick-or-treating, Thanksgiving meals and holiday celebrations, sticking with your diet can be a big challenge. We’ve compiled some great strategies to help! 

  • Don’t skip a meal. Eat as you normally would on the day you have a holiday party to attend. People that “save their calories” for a big meal by skipping another meal often end up overeating because they are so hungry by the time they finally eat.
  • Easy on the appetizers. Don’t overload on appetizers before the rest of the meal is served. Stick with veggies and fruits or healthy dips like salsa and hummus.
  • Don’t hover. Take your conversations away from the food table. If you’re chatting near the food, you’re much more likely to reach over for another bite without even realizing it.
  • Don’t drink your calories. Eggnog may be a holiday specialty, but it’s also heavy on calories. The same goes for those festive holiday coffee drinks at the coffee shop.  Be mindful of how many calorie-high beverages you are indulging in.
  • Stick to your exercise routine. The holiday season is a very busy one and it can be difficult to get in your workout, but it’s important to stay active. You don’t want one of your New Year’s resolutions to be lose the 5 pounds you gained during the holidays, do you?

With conscious effort you can enjoy some traditional holiday dishes while still fitting into your favorite pair of jeans!
