Don’t Spend Money for New Year’s Eve

Christmas has come and gone and you may feel like all you have left is a pile of used wrapping paper and an empty wallet. But, the holidays aren’t over yet – there’s still New Year’s! Do you want a way to ring in the New Year without spending any more money?

Here are some cost-efficient ways to celebrate:

  • Be a guest. Skip out on hosting your own party. It’ll save you not only money but time and energy as well. Plus, don’t you enjoy going to someone else’s well-executed party more than stressing over whether or not you’ll run out of hors d’oeuvres?!
  • Return Christmas gifts. Did great aunt Opal give you one more sweater that could be used to line your cat’s bed? Rather than sacrifice it to Patches, return it to the store and use the money for your New Year’s festivities.
  • Swap presents. Did your next door neighbor somehow end up with 10 tins of cookies or chocolates while you ended up with 10 meat, cheese and cracker gift baskets? Do a 50/50 exchange so you both have a mix of sweet and salty food to serve or bring to your midnight festivities.
  • Regift. Have no shame about the practice of regifting; just make sure you’re not giving the gift back to the person who originally gave it to you! Regifting is another way to get rid of a gift that doesn’t suit your style or is just a repeat gift. Use the item as a host/hostess gift for the New Year's Eve party you attend.
  • Borrow from a friend. Has your little black dress or suit seen one too many parties in 2014? Borrow clothes or/and accessories from a friend for a completely new look or to jazz up something you’ve already got in your closet.
  • Don't buy fireworks. Watch a fireworks show in your community or on T.V. The reality is a public fireworks display will be better than any show you put on anyway.

With a little forethought and creativity you can make your New Year’s Eve fun and festive without breaking the bank!
