Arvest Bank to Participate in Apple Pay

You likely have heard the announcement from Apple about the availability of Apple Pay, allowing iPhone 6 users to make purchases at participating retailers directly from their phone. Apple worked only with six banks in advance to make Apple Pay available; all other banks were unable to begin the process to sign agreements and begin work until late September.  Arvest is working with our processors and other teams on the technical integration to make Apple Pay available to our customers. Because we are working as quickly as possible, we are unable to provide a firm date. Our goal is to bring Apple Pay to you as soon as possible; we are dependent on some of our processing partners and it may not be available for a few months. For more information, please read our release below which announced our intent to participate.

LOWELL, Ark. — Arvest Bank has reached an agreement with Apple, Inc., which will make the Apple Pay mobile wallet system available to Arvest customers. Arvest is one of the first regional banks to announce its participation in the mobile payment system first introduced by Apple on Sept. 9.

Apple Pay allows customers to load credit and debit cards from participating banks into an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus, then simply hold the device near a contactless reader. According to Apple, there are approximately 220,000 locations with contactless readers in the U.S. Partnering retailers include Subway, McDonalds, Petco, Walgreens, Staples and Whole Foods, among others. Customers also can use Apple Pay to make purchases online through online retailers with apps that integrate Apple Pay, such as Target, Starbucks, and Open Table. Additional retailers are expected to begin accepting Apple Pay payments in the near future.

“Arvest Bank is excited to partner with Apple to offer this service to our customers,” said Jason Kincy, Director of Marketing for Arvest Bank. “We embrace mobile technology that provides added convenience for our customers, and Apple Pay will give them a quick, easy way to make everyday purchases using a mobile device. With this agreement in place, we are working on integrating this new payment method into our processing and we anticipate making it available to our customers in the near future.”

Large banks already partnered with Apple in Apple Pay were announced with the launch of the system. They include Bank of America, Chase, Citi, Wells Fargo, American Express and Capital One. The system is also partnered with card-issuers American Express, MasterCard and Visa.

Apple’s newly introduced iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have Near Field Communication (NFC) chips that allow the device to communicate with other devices within a range of about one inch. They are currently the only iPhones able to make in-store “tap and pay” purchases.

Once cards are uploaded into the iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus, Apple will verify the card with the customer’s bank for security and validity. A virtual “token” link between that card and that specific phone is stored in the Passbook app. The “token” number will not work on any other device or phone.

Specifically, push alerts for iPad® and Android apps are now accessible. You can enable push notifications for our mobile alerts, which include:

  • Low balance
  • Deposit confirmation
  • Overdraft posted
  • Check cleared

iPhone®* and iPad®* users will be prompted to accept the required update. Android™* users will see a refreshed interface and will be prompted to accept the required update.

Mobile Web has always put the primary functions of Arvest Online Banking within reach of your preferred mobile device. Now, however, you will see a new look that provides a more app-like visual experience.

Some of the many functions you’ll still be able to enjoy include:

  • Check balances
  • Get history
  • Transfer funds
  • Pay bills
  • Locate a branch/ATM

Mobile Deposits Grow Rapidly As Customers Adopt Technology

Smartphones and tablets have changed the way people bank. Arvest has seen more than a 200 percent increase in the number of mobile check deposits made by customers in a year-over-year comparison.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark., — Just seventeen months after the service was first introduced, mobile check deposits are now the norm for thousands of Arvest Bank customers. In January and February 2013, the average number of Arvest mobile check deposits was 23,914. During that same time period in 2014, the bank saw an average of 73,148 mobile check deposits, or a 202 percent increase. Since November 2012, Arvest customers have deposited more than 798,800 checks and more than $250 million dollars – all from their mobile devices.

With this rapid adoption of mobile banking technology, there is no denying that the widespread use of smartphones and tablets has changed the way many consumers bank. From 2012 to 2013 smartphone ownership increased by more than 25 percent* in the United States, and tablet ownership increased nearly 60 percent.*

“The idea of snapping a photo of a check to make a deposit is something that may have been hard for some customers to get used to, but once they try it and see how easy it is, they love it,” said Wade Satterfield, Director of Digital Service Systems at Arvest Bank. “As you can see by these numbers, our customers have really embraced mobile check deposits.”

With more consumers using mobile devices to bank than ever before, it is to be expected that the possibilities for using mobile devices will continue to grow beyond just checking balances and transferring funds. The rapid adoption of mobile banking technology throughout the past couple of years has led some to speculate that the traditional bank branch on its way to extinction. However, while mobile banking options certainly add to the convenience of banking today, branches are still relevant.

According to’s March 2014 Financial Security Index charts,* older people were more likely to visit their bank. Twenty-nine percent of those between 30 and 49 years old said they visited their bank within the past week, versus 19 percent of those between 18 and 29 years old. The survey also found that more education equated more trips to the bank. Thirty-five percent of respondents with college experience said they visited the bank within the last week, versus 21 percent who had a high school education or less.

“The number and location of bank branches, as well as their functionality, will continue to evolve, but clearly they’re not going away,” said Greg McBride,’s chief financial analyst, in a prepared statement. 

While embracing technology, Arvest Bank is still committed to providing a strong branch network to its customers. As many national and regional banks are abandoning smaller communities or are reducing branch services or hours, Arvest has continued to grow its branch network.  In the past year the bank has added more than 30 new locations, either by acquisition or construction.  Additionally, many Arvest Bank locations offer 12-hour banking, either from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. or 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. 

“Our goal is always to provide the financial tools and resources that our customers need, whether they are sitting on their couch using an iPad, or visiting us in one of our branches,” Satterfield continued. “Arvest will continue to adopt the banking technology that will benefit our customers at the time and pace that makes sense for us, as well as supporting our strong branch network. We want our customers to have multiple banking channels, and they can choose what suits them best.”

The Arvest for iPad app and Mobile Banking Alerts are now available to make your mobile banking more convenient!

The long anticipated Arvest for iPad app is now available to all Arvest Mobile Banking customers! The iPad app supplements our existing iPhone and Android apps.

All Arvest apps enjoy full Mobile Banking functionality with features like ability to view account balances and transactions, transfer funds, deposit checks, pay bills and more.

Mobile Banking Alerts   
No iPad? No worries. We’re now offering Arvest Mobile Banking Alerts to keep you informed of action on your account. You can now create text, email, and push* alerts for low balances, deposit postings, check processing, withdrawals and more!

Mobile Banking Alerts are easily managed within the Mobile Banking tab inside Arvest Online Banking. Once you’re on this tab you’ll want to register your mobile phone and email address. 

Once you’ve enrolled your mobile phone or email in Arvest Mobile Banking, you have options for creating and managing your alerts.

  • Log in to Arvest Online Banking, select the Mobile Banking tab, then select Alerts, OR
  • Click the Alerts tile in the Mobile Banking App, OR
  • Click the Manage Alerts link in your Mobile Web browser
