Customer Question: “What is a merchant card data breach?”

Customer Question: “What is a merchant card data breach? Is it safe to use my debit card?”

A merchant data breach is when an unauthorized party accesses a merchant computer network and steals cardholder data. In these types of breaches, the impacted cardholders are those who used their cards at the breached merchant. They typically impact cardholders at multiple banks.

Unfortunately, merchant data breaches are becoming more common with 974 publicly disclosed data breaches in the first half of 2016 alone, according to the Breach Level Index*.

Arvest, along with other banks in the region, is seeing some fraudulent transactions on less than one-half of one percent of our debit cards as a result of a merchant data breach at one or more merchants. This is NOT an Arvest security breach and includes cards from other banks.
Please know our teams regularly monitor our debit card activity watching for fraudulent transactions. If unusual activity is observed, we will contact you immediately.
As a reminder, you should also regularly monitor your accounts for any unauthorized transactions or suspicious activity and report it immediately. If you see suspicious activity on your Arvest account, please contact Customer Service at (866) 952-9523 or visit your local branch.
It is important for U.S. Visa consumer debit and credit cardholders to know they are protected against fraudulent purchases with Visa’s Zero Liability Policy*.
Remember to practice good financial security by monitoring your accounts and reporting suspicious activity to your card issuer immediately.

Arvest Bank and Visa Account Updater

Thursday, November 17 at 08:00 AM
Category: Arvest News

Beginning in November, Arvest Bank will participate in the Visa Account Updater (VAU) program*. We know the challenges our customers face when it comes to keeping card payment information up-to-date. Outdated card information can lead to declined card transactions and inconvenience. The VAU program allows enrolled merchants to receive automatic, electronic updates any time your debit card information changes.

Examples of situations in which card information changes includes:
  • Card number changes
  • Card expiration date changes
Note, Arvest will not report cancelled debit cards through the VAU program, so customers will need to update their new card information with merchants when the card is cancelled.

By participating in the VAU program, Arvest helps participating merchants manage recurring payments and card-on-file transactions more efficiently. The benefits you will enjoy, thanks to Arvest’s participation in this program, include:
  • A seamless account update process
  • Uninterrupted service from participating merchants
  • Reduced chance of card declination
For more information about Arvest’s participation in the VAU program, call us today at (866) 952-9523.

This summer we conducted an outdoor adventure photo contest on Instagram where we asked people to submit photos to be considered for Arvest debit card designs. From over 300 submissions we selected 12 finalists which Instagram users voted on to determine our three winners. Let’s take a look at one of the people behind the camera.

Doug Nordin is the photographer of our Dock View debit card. He’s a 1991 Russellville High School graduate and employee of International Paper Company since 1993.

“I’m not a professional, but I do enjoy taking pictures on the weekends with my Samsung S7 phone or Samsung NX 2000 camera,” Nordin said.

Photography is a hobby his wife, Crystal, got him into a couple of years ago. He enjoys doing it in his spare time or while he’s out enjoying nature. He’s won a few other contests and plans to take some pictures at the local fair this year.
The Dock View debit card picture was taken at Lake Atkins near Atkins, Ark.

To order the Dock View debit card visit your local branch or call (866) 952-9523. View additional debit card designs at

Limited edition cards to display popular destinations across the Natural State.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Arvest Bank and the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism worked in collaboration to create a limited-edition series of specialty debit cards that showcase some of the state’s most scenic and popular attractions.

The eight debit card designs feature images from every area of the state including Blanchard Springs Caverns, Buffalo National River, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Lake Chicot State Park, Lake Ouachita, Petit Jean State Park, The Ridges at Village Creek and Whitaker Point near Boxley. The cards will be available to new and current Arvest Bank customers at any bank location across Arkansas, as well as the communities the bank serves in Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma from August 19 through June 30, 2017.

“This is an opportunity that gives our customers access to unique designs for their specialty cards, along with the ability to show their sense of pride in Arkansas and promote it every time a transaction is made,” said Jason Kincy, spokesman for Arvest Bank. “The eight card designs each differ in appearance, yet all display the inherent beauty of The Natural State.”

“We want to share all of the wonderful sites Arkansas offers, so it was an easy decision to partner with the largest bank in Arkansas, and to have the opportunity to promote our attractions outside the state as well,” said Kane Webb, executive director of the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism.

Debit cards are free to customers who open a new account with Arvest or they may be purchased to replace an existing card for $7.50. See the limited-edition designs at

Kansas City Skyline Debit Card is Here!

Monday, August 29 at 09:35 AM
Category: Arvest News

We might be biased, but Kansas City has a beautiful skyline and we thought it would be pretty neat to have an Arvest debit card that featured it! So, we held a debit card contest where associates were asked to put their photography skills to use and submit a picture of the Kansas City skyline. The top five photographs were voted on and the most popular picture was deemed the winner!

Congratulations to Angela Lollis, Administrative Assistant, on her winning photo of Kansas City at dusk!

“I’ve always had a passion for art, especially photography,” Lollis said. “I studied film photography in college, taught myself digital, and eventually worked up to a professional level and started my own business. Now I mainly shoot weddings, and that’s where I can be found many Saturdays outside of Arvest. But I absolutely love the opportunity to photograph landscapes and cityscapes when given the chance, so I was excited when this contest came along!”

The debit card is now available to order at What an amazing way to show Kansas City pride!
